Prop Engine on a “Stoof” WWII Navy Bomber

by Cody McKibben

One of the Wright Cyclone propeller engines on a twin-engine S2F-1 (“Stoof”) Anti-Submarine Warfare Hunter/Killer. This particular Grumman US-2B Tracker sits aboard the USS Hornet (CV-12) aircraft carrier, which was restored and is now a national museum harbored at the Alameda Naval Air Station. The Hornet has a long and interesting history for the part it played in World War II, Vietnam, the Apollo space missions, and as the subject and set for several films. The carrier is also said to be one of the most haunted warships in the American Navy. Alameda, California, 2008
